Dr. Ryoichi Nakao's Teachings, Quoted and Sourced
If you have found your way here, you have probably already tried a great deal. You may be tired of appointments that ended without answers, and you may be holding on because something in you refuses to give up. You are not the first to feel that, and you are not alone in it.
What follows is not an argument, and it is not a verdict. It is one doctor's explanation of how he believed this works, kept in the words the sources use, so the words stay his and not mine.
Read it slowly. Nothing here is urgent.
The doctor is Dr. Ryoichi Nakao, a Japanese physician who founded the MCL Institute in Japan and treated patients with urine therapy for decades. The book these pages are drawn from, Orinoterapia, he wrote together with Kayoko Komiyama.
🌅 Dr. Ryoichi Nakao was a doctor.
Before that, he was a boy who heard about this once, from a teacher, and did not give it another thought. He grew up, he studied medicine the way it is taught in universities, and that lesson from childhood stayed quietly where he had left it.
Then came the Second World War. He was in it, with soldiers under his command. Somewhere in those years he remembered what his teacher had once said, and he began to use it. What he saw there stayed with him for the rest of his life.
"Dr. Nakao informally researched urine therapy with soldiers under his command in WW2. Years later he and others did scientific studies on it. He says:"

📖 THE SAME STORY, IN HIS OWN WORDS

The book is where he tells it himself. These are his own sentences, kept in the Spanish he wrote them in, with the page beside each one so you can find them.
❝ Antes de que fuera médico, sabía que la orina curaba las enfermedades por los cuentos. Porque en mi infancia escuchaba que los adultos decían ... que la orina era una substancia que curaba todas las enfermedades.
Before he was a doctor, he knew from the old stories that urine healed illness. As a child he heard the adults say it was a substance that cured all diseases.

In the army there were no medicines. Unable to treat tropical and venereal diseases properly, he combined inadequate doses of medicine with urine therapy, and got very good results.

Many years would still pass before science explained it. But we cannot say it has no effect just because its mechanism is unknown.

Then he says what he believed urine actually is:
"First of all, in order to examine this mechanism, we have to consider that the efficacy of urine therapy does not show it to be a medicine. Urine is an information source about the disease in the body or, in other words, it is a copy of the changes occurring in the body."

🧠 HOW HE SAID IT WORKS
The throat speaks, the brain answers

This is the part so often left out, and it is the heart of his thinking:
"Due to the following reasons, I believe that when this information in the urine passes through the throat it is analysed by sensors in the throat, and that the human immune system can then be activated to cure the disease. That is to say, signals are given by the brain which may activate the necessary functions for curing the ailment."

He did not arrive there quickly. He lists the five things that led him to that conclusion:
"(1). Experiments were conducted and it was found that when the urine was induced into the stomach using a catheter, bypassing the throat for a period of one month, no efficacy was observed.
(2). The fact that cancer occurs in the bladder, urinary tract and kidneys proves that the presence of urine inside the body does not have any direct effect on carcinogenic cells. But when the same urine is taken orally and passes through the throat, a decrease in carcinogenic cell growth or the disappearance of cancer has been observed in cancer patients.
(3). Even if urine is not ingested but only gargled, the effects were found to be the same as when it was ingested.
(4). If gargling with water was done just after ingestion of urine no efficacy was observed.
(5). Interferon, one of many bio-active substances found in urine presents a situation analogous to that of auto-urine therapy in that only minute quantities taken orally are necessary to provide the brain with the information it needs to heal the body. In clinical trials, only 100 IU or 1/100,000 of the million international units of interferon given orally had the same effects as 10 million units administered by injections. (Hayashibara Biochemical Labs., Inc Okayama, Japan and Dr Cummins of Amarillo Cell Culture, Amarillo Texas)."

Where those sensors are, in his own words:
"Because of the above findings, it can be assumed that sensor cells which can perceive extremely minute changes in the body, could control them if stimulated by the right information from urine. Such cells are found in the oral cavity and throat said Dr Ryoichi Nakao."

And then the most specific part, what he believed happens after the signal reaches the brain:
"Dr Nakao's theory for the stimulation of cytokine production explains further that urine is the source of information for a given disease. When it is placed in the throat, the sensor cells detect this information, passing it to the brain. In its turn, the brain triggers the cytokine production gland which provides regulation for the immune system. From the brain, interleukin X, together with other enzymes, cause cytokines to be produced and thus effect a recovery from illness."

A whole idea sits inside that passage, and he defined his own terms:
"Immune system regulating factors were originally known as interleukin (IL). Later, interleukins, colony stimulating factors, interferon and other similar substances were generally called cytokines since they are secreted by cells, and affect other cells in one way or the other. 🗣️ THE PAGES HE POINTED TO
T cells, B cells, and the sensor in the throat

The throat explanation has a home in the book itself, around page 72. This is how the body is described there, in the book's own words:
❝ Para la agresión externa (bacterias, virus, etc.) el organismo humano ordena a las células T, B y otros leucocitos, etc. produciendo anticuerpos para normalizar el estado patológico. Por otro lado para el disfuncionamiento de los tejidos intraorgánicos, la orina que contiene informaciones sale del organismo y al ser capturado en el sensor de la faringe, se diagnostica el estado actual del organismo y se activa el funcionamiento autorregulador para su normalización.
Against bacteria and viruses the body orders out T cells, B cells and other white cells to make antibodies. For trouble inside its own tissues, the urine carrying the information leaves the body, and when it is caught by the sensor of the pharynx the body reads its own present state and switches on the self-regulating work that normalises it.

Then the book says why it goes in through the mouth rather than bypassing the throat at all. It hands the point to Prof. Tomio Tada of the University of Tokyo:
❝ Este tejido linfoide del tubo digestivo corresponde a una cuarta parte de su totalidad.
Prof. Tada taught that the lymphoid tissue of the digestive tube is a quarter of the body's entire supply — the reason the book keeps returning to the mouth and throat.

Modern medicine sends one medicine at one disease, like a ball into a basketball hoop. He preferred billiards: a single dose of urine sets several balls moving at once. They called it the billiard theory.

🌟 WHAT SURPRISED HIM
The cases beyond the throat
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
These are the reports that made him stop and write them down. They come from his own patients and from the letters people sent him, so they are his record of what was reported to him, not controlled trials. In the same pages he says plainly that this therapy is not omnipotent.
The eardrum that grew back:
❝ Desde el punto de vista médico se considera que el tímpano no tiene capacidad de regeneración. Sin embargo he recibido una carta de una ginecóloga de 45 años ... la otorrea ... que no mejoraba con el tratamiento médico, cedió y el tímpano se regeneró íntegramente tapando su agujero. Su audición se normalizó.
Medicine holds that the eardrum cannot regenerate. He received a letter from a 45-year-old gynaecologist: the discharge no treatment had helped gave way, the eardrum closed over its own hole, and her hearing returned to normal.

Two operations cancelled by a single scan:
❝ El resultado del examen fue que el cáncer de tiroides había desaparecido y la sinusitis que también padecía y requería cirugía, tampoco se encontraba y solamente pudieron observar su huella.
A man being prepared for thyroid cancer surgery came out of the scan with no cancer left, and the sinusitis that had also been booked for surgery was gone too, only its shadow on the film.

The kidney and bladder tumours:
❝ En Febrero desaparece el tumor del riñón izquierdo. ... El 9 de Junio el tumor desapareció por completo de acuerdo a los exámenes de ultrasonido, exámenes de sangre y de orina.
A woman refused the bladder removal her doctors advised. The tumour in her left kidney disappeared in February; by 9 June the bladder tumour was gone as well, confirmed by ultrasound, blood and urine tests.

The dose almost too small to imagine:
❝ ...se producía una proliferación increíble de epitelio. Lo que nos llama la atención es que la toxina de vibrio cholerae que es una substancia totalmente perjudicial al organismo, tiene un efecto tan favorable.
Professor Toshio Kuroki of Tokyo University found that a billionth of a gram of cholera toxin produced an incredible proliferation of epithelium. A gram weighs about what a 1-yen coin weighs; a billionth of it is barely imaginable. What struck him was that a substance utterly harmful to the body could act so favourably in that dose.

The only survivor of a yacht wreck drank his own urine and stayed alive for 29 days in the boat.

Of a before-and-after pair he reproduced, he wrote that they look like a woman and her younger sister, and that it is hard to believe they are the same person.
